My bike ride was interesting on this Memorial Day. There's a fellow I've known for some time on my route who flies the American flag and under that a Don't Tread On Me flag or a MIA-POW flag. Today the Navy flag was flying under Old Glory. He was out on the lawn and as I cycled by I slowed and waved to him and asked if he was Navy or his Dad who lives with him. He said he was the one who served in the Navy. I called over my shoulder that I served in the Marine Corps. He made a sour face and shouted that he was sorry to hear that. I thought, "What the heck?"

I usually do a uey just past his house and came back toward him. I found him smiling and waving, and as I went by he said, "Thank you, sir."

That made my day.
