May 27,28-The past two days have been pretty much the same. Water in the morning and evening before heading home. Mulching. Weeding. I noticing new fruiting. A Japanese Long Purple eggplant has borne fruit. So has the first Giant Syrian tomato plant. More fruit is appearing on the pepper plants. One tomato plant remains a mystery. I won't know what it is until the first two green globes ripen.

I planted some Persian basil seed in a bed that once held lettuce. I'll find out what's unique about it in a few weeks.

The clutter is always a problem for gardeners. I decided to set up my seedling trays in the greenhouse for next season's lettuce. I will direct sow in the fall.

This week I'll try to cajole Dreama into taking images of several plants, especially the lettuce I allowed to go to seed.

The top of that slope has been bugging me while resting in my shady corner. I decided it would be a good spot for blueberry bushes. I researched a couple of research articles from the NC State University Ag Extension about growing blueberries in the Piedmont. Step 1, as always, is dig. So I spaded up a circle about a foot deep and six feet diameter.
Since blueberry plants require acid soil -- 5 to 5.5 -- the coffee grounds from Starbucks will give me a head start in the soil preparation.
The tree bark mulch -- plenty of it around -- can be incorporated into the depression. I should have it prepared for testing by November. It's best to transplant blueberry as well as most fruit tress in the winter season to establish the roots.

It's not too early to think about brassicas.

Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
