Trump Picks Former Goldman Partner And Soros Employee As Finance Chairman

by Tyler Durden
May 5, 2016 11:35 PM

In an oddly ironic twist, today Donald Trump announced that he has picked as chairman of his newly launched fundraising operation none other than a former employee of the bank he has repeatedly criticized in the past, and which he used as a foil to criticize Ted Cruz: Goldman Sachs.
...
As Zero Hedge readers are familiar, Trump often critized his main competitor Ted Cruz for his links to the bank because of loans used to finance Cruz’s Senate campaign, and because Heidi Cruz was a one-time employee of Goldman. "I know the guys at Goldman Sachs. They have total, total control over him. Just like they have total control over Hillary Clinton,” Trump said in one debate.

Carl Icahn's shares in CVR Energy have doubled since Trump won the election
Shares of oil refiner CVR Energy have nearly doubled since Donald Trump's election, providing a windfall to investor Carl Icahn, who will advise the president on regulations — including a rule change that would benefit the company.

The stock rose 98.5 percent between Trump's election and its closing high earlier this month, as the Financial Times pointed out on Friday. Just before Friday's close, it was up nearly 81 percent, following a 6 percent slide on the day.

The stock is up about 8 percent since the presidential transition team announced on Dec. 21 that Icahn would serve as "a special advisor" to Trump.

Carl Icahn dismisses conflict-of-interest fears in role as Trump advisor on regulations
...
Trump on Wednesday named Icahn a special advisor for overhauling federal regulations that both contend are inhibiting business investment and economic growth.
...
But because Icahn will serve “in his individual capacity” and not as a federal employee, as Trump’s team put it, Icahn probably would not have to give up any of his business holdings. That led to complaints of Icahn having conflicts of interest in advising Trump.
...
Icahn was unavailable to comment. But in a lengthy interview Thursday on CNBC, Icahn said he was mystified by the conflict concerns and he would be “more or less doing what I’m doing now, which is talking to Donald from time to time.”
...
Icahn reportedly also is helping Trump make decisions for his Cabinet, including nominating Steven Mnuchin and Wilbur Ross to head the Treasury and Commerce departments, respectively, and a new chief of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Reports also said Icahn had helped Trump pick Oklahoma Atty. Gen. Scott Pruitt as head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Icahn has been a frequent critic of the EPA’s regulations while simultaneously controlling such energy companies as oil refiner CVR Energy Inc.

Donald Trump’s Friends Seem to Be Borrowing a Lot For People Who Can’t Get Loans
Stephen Gandel
Feb 03, 2017
Carl Icahn, an advisor, and long-time friend to Donald Trump, doesn't seem to have any trouble getting a loan these days. He might want to tell President Donald Trump that.
