Buddy you might find this conversation with the IBES team in Dubai interesting.

Questions about engine.

How much maintenance (hours/month) to you anticipate it will need?
Has this engine ever been commercially used, if so in what product?

Thank you n advance.

Hi Creston,
The maintenance schedule we have got from Cyclone states that the key moving parts has a lifecycle of 30,000 hours (bearings, control valve). The block, cylinders and crank shaft has an indefinite life time. Some ‘consumables’ has a maintenance schedule of 5,000 hours. This applies to piston rings, seals and the seat for the control valve. Belts and water filters a schedule of 2,000 to 3,000 hours.

The ‘consumables’ parts can be changed within minutes. For example, changing the piston rings is a matter of unscrewing 8 fixing bolts, twist the cylinder off its seat, remove the piston and replace the rings. This can be done in 10 min per piston with exercise.

Alf

Hi Alf,
Thank you for your answer to my question. Any information about the second question?

Has this engine ever been commercially used ,and if so in what product?

Sorry, overlooked that one. As far as we are aware, no. A smaller version of the engine (the Mark 1) is being utilized by a Danish defense contractor to, as far as I know, be used in an APU for armored personnel vehicles. I spoke to the company earlier this year and then the application was not ready.

There was also an attempt a few years ago by an Irish company to use it in warehouse forklifts. The company bought a few engines but after that there has been no news.

So, fairly untested which is partly the reason we are doing our own tests now.
