May 7-8--My biorhythm is on the ebb side again. I take naps in the afternoon in the chair beside the wall. Maybe it's the weather that slows me down by 2 pm.
I manage to accomplish a few things. I've placed two 6ft timbers in the bed that Rico destroyed. Only 6 more to complete the project. It will take months, I figure, to finish it.
I incorporated the remaining buckets of manure into the bed for the pepper plants in the greenhouse. I marked each one with a rod or pipe or a wooden stake. I have 36 yet to go into the soil.
I transplanted 7 toothache plant seedlings into prepared beds on the patio, adding the latest batch of compost to each one.
This morning I will take the bus to Dollar General, then on the return pick up a bag of coffee grounds from Starbucks, then take to the 13 bus to Statesville Ave where I will get off to walk to Bobby's stable. It's not a long walk. I can fill two 5 gallon buckets with manure that's not to wet and walk back to the bus stop. Sadly, the crew members won't even drop me off on their trips too and from the property. But they will scarf what I grow.
I sampled a leaf from the Black Seeded Simpson lettuce which bolted. The bitterness at first isn't unpleasant. The finish is actually slightly sweet. People who appreciate bitter greens wouldn't have a problem with it.
The sunflower seeds I've sown have germinated, some already making true leaves. The Mammoth Russian seeds I've saved for a couple years didn't germinate, so I'll simply plant more Valentine and Lemon Queen seeds that did germinate.
Needless to say, it's going to be a late planting for watermelon seeds. Blackberry Winter will remain in Zone 7b until at least Friday.
