Forgotten in this "analysis" is the fact that Canadian Lumber is much higher quality. I have seen the Canadian Forests being harvested in British Columbia. They have old growth trees that are over 120 feet tall, and run from DBH 24 inches up to over 100 feet, 22 DBH. They harvest many trees that make 2 55' logs with less than one inch taper. These are old growth timber that we don't have in the US, because we have already cut it. The US sawmills cannot acquire #1 pine in the US anywhere near the quality of this timber. If we put a tariff/tax on this fine timber, the price will just be passed on to the consumer.
This is stupid. It will cost American jobs and consumers if this passes. Anybody that has been to Home Depot or Lowes lately and seen the crap that they sell as #2, knows what I am talking about.
