April 25-The day began chilly and dreary. Thank goodness that north wind had just about blown itself out. After feeding the cat I walked around to cvheck for damaged plants. Hardly any to speak of. The soil drains so well I decided to do some transplanting.

I put in two tomato plants, an eggplant, and a pepper plant. And, the Green Globe artichoke with the most advanced stage of growth got my attention. I put it into a raised bed I've built but never used for at least a year. The hole I dug out was amended with three buckets of horse manure, plus Tomato-tone, and crushed up eggshells at the bottom. The plant's extensive root network told me it was ready to transplant. A year will pass before the plant, if it develops properly, will bear fruit.

I was uptown earlier, with a bag of Pink Beauty radishes for Candy, the manager at Woodie's. She said she likes them with a squeeze of lime juuice and Worcestershire. I learned Angelica was due that afternoon so I took another dozen.

Ali had some visitors. Guys with money for a job Ali is bidding on. They each got a bag of heirloom lettuce. So did Charity, the new office worker.

Earlier this morning I was on the sidewalk, saw the 11K approaching and decided, what the heck, lets go to Walmart for catfood. I left for the return ride with the catfood, a Giant Jalapeno pepper plant, a Spearmint plant, which went into a bed where it will get plenty of shade, and a packet of National Pickling cucumbers.

Speaking of cucumbers, I put in two plants the project manager bought over the weekend.

When I got home, seeds packets from Baker Creek were in the mailbox. Still too early for melon sowing, thanks to 72 hours of chilly, rainy weather. The Jenny Lind I haven't grown in several years and I want to give this variety another go.

Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
