The Optane drive cache is more promising than I thought but I still think that it will be kind of a niche product. Still Optane+HD it is very close on a lot of mainstream benchmarks to a midrange SSD. Hard drives aren't quite dead yet...



It is taking some time and it sounds like a layer between RAM and HD, which needs software tweaks, 3rd party help, at the least. Maybe I am hallucinating, seeing shades of Itanium.
