Reading between the lines

And evidently they added patients according to the better to beg forgiveness than ask (and wait) for permission.

I am very curious as to the light of "new information", that was remarkably vague. That is non-committal to either way but might be taken as positive.

The "new information" might be what was behind the word, what was it "futile" from earlier, in the end the over all meaning could still be "the trial is about to come to an end" and not necessarily for positive reasons.

Instead of "we expect to win" the language was "we're not out of pocket, we only pay if we win". ( I guess they can't say "we expect to win" even if they do )
