I frequently monitor GE jobs just to see who they are hiring for additive manufacturing, below is a recent job opening. My only take away from this is they are going to use in-process monitoring but what technology they use, in-house, concept laser, sglb, is anyones guess. By the way on several of the current job listings they also talk about in-process monitoring not just this one. This to me a least resolves whether they are just going to do post processing only for their additive parts (because GE is and could continue to do this) or if they will ultimately do in-process monitoring.



In-Process Monitoring / Machine Health Engineering Focal

Role Summary/Purpose:

The In-Process Monitoring /Machine Health Engineering Focal is focused on the design and manufacturing of additive machines (powder bed and other modalities, powder handling systems, etc.) in addition to the additive manufacturing process. It requires a balance of theoretical and hands-on skills to be able to introduce new technologies into the additive machine space to improve industrialization readiness, fine feature resolution, integrate into digital, and increase machine size and speed.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, you will develop additive manufacturing processes for powder bed and other modalities. This could include various aspects of the following:
Process development
Machine parameter development
laser design/optimization
In-process monitoring
non-contact measurement
photo or videogrammetry
Data visualization
Machine health
Machine safetyYou will also:
Industrialize additive process and post-additive processes
Leverage in-process monitoring
Identify and define breakthrough technologies for process improvements for the next generation of machines
Help define the additive factory of the future.
Define and control production process including additive parameters and other manufacturing processes needed to produce prototype hardware.
Develop new solutions under guidance and / or in a team setting or based upon precedents in the organizations.
Work together with business leadership at SPB and EB level.
Specify needs, communicate about project approach and present outcomes of research done.
Deliver products as part of a team. Work on cross functional teams.
Lead analytical and design activities using proven technologies and vested approaches and methods.
