Probably the best kept secret because it is buried in bureaucracy! What is most depressing for me is the sheer time it takes for 'the agencies' to do their work and the sheer number of politically correct hurdles they have to go through to satisfy the State of Minnesota. Putting aside the decade of EIS work, there followed the land swap for over a year. It is still subject to the inevitable lawsuits by virtue of the PC which actively encouraged them. Now permitting. Take the all important Permit to Mine. The application was submitted almost 6 months ago. According to the DNR's latest timeframe, they are half way through 'reviewing' the application. So, 6 months down and barely out of the starting gate. There then follows a 30-day period to prepare public notices. Then tribal pre-notice. Then 52 days for public notice and objection. Penultimately, and with no timeline, public comments (aka another open invitation for enviros to delay things once more) will be reviewed before a final decision is made. We are looking at another year, at least! Lunacy.
