Charley Hoffman slipped on the coveted black cowboy boots after last year's Valero Texas Open and returns this week for a chance to defend his title at TPC San Antonio's AT&T Oaks Course.
Hoffman entered last year's Valero with six straight top 15s at TPC San Antonio, including a T2 in 2011 and T3 in 2013. His love for the layout only grew fonder as he signed for rounds of 66-71-70-69=276 (-12) to beat Patrick Reed by one stroke. His biggest weapon was the flat stick, gaining 5.89 strokes putting by week's end. That kind of magic is nothing new for Hoffman around these parts, as he's gained 2 or more strokes putting in all seven trips to TPC San Antonio. More recently, the UNLV product missed the cut at last week's RBC Heritage. That came fresh on the heels of a draining week at the Masters in which he co-led at the midpoint before fading to T22 by Sunday night. With steady ball-striking and a clear comfort around these greens, Hoffman is a worthy option in all fantasy formats this week.
