April 14-Good Friday began with overcast skies, a chill wind, but by 9 am when I arrived at the Woodie's bus stop, the skies were blue and I no longer needed the jacket. Welcome to spring time in Zone 7b.
I tried Jerry first thing after I arrived. He's under the weather, he said, so I try again Saturday or Monday. Darn.
In the greenhouse I eyenballed some eggplants and tomato plants and decided this cant go on. They have to go into the ground. By day's end I put in three Rosa Bianca eggplants and three tomato plants. I know one is Giant Syrian, the other a Green Vernissage, but third could be anything.
I used lots of compost for each plant, and eggshells. I can always side dress with organic granular fertilizer next week, along with aged manure. Each hole is so full of worms they will go a long way to making and keeping the soil fertile.
I will have to hand water these plants. Although Mohammed repaired the water line, the other spigot nearest entrance spewed water a ground level. Some fool hit it with their vehicle. Mohammed says he will soon put in eggplants. What kind, I don't know.
While uptown at the Harris Teeter, I noticed the firemen from the station on Church were inside shopping. It gave me an idea. Maybe they will buy this lettuce which isn't getting any younger.
Saturday, I will put in more eggplants, tomato plants and even a couple of pepper plants. They don't have to be super big, just a few true leaves is enough.
Where will I put the Green Globe artichoke plant?
Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
