When entering the armed services of the U S an oath is required. Here is a quote from the Internet:
Text of the Oath

"I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.[1]

The oath is for an indeterminate period; no duration is specifically defined."
That is clear enough and very simple. I took that oath long ago but as it says it is for an indeterminate period. No one has relieved me of my freely given oath to defend the Constitution, and no one can or ever will. I did not give the oath to the American people. Nor to the Government. Nor to the President. Or to a political party. The oath is about the Constitution, TO the Constitution. I committed to defend it with my life if necessary. My oath will live as long as I do.
If you have not served then you probably never gave such an oath. Nothing stopping you from giving the oath from your heart. Defend The Constitution. It is what makes America the great nation it is.
