“Worst 100 Days We’ve Ever Seen”, David Gergen Nails How “Delusional” Trump Screwed Up So Badly
Republican Donald Trump’s inability to “close the deal” and repeal and replace Obamacare is unquestionably the crowning failure of his young presidency so far.
However, by any measure, Trump’s short reign in the White House has been a flop overall, from the escalating Russia scandal to Trump’s self-inflicted humiliation over his Obama wiretapping allegation and, of course, the blocking of his two immigration bans at the hands of federal judges. After the collapse of the Trumpcare bill, former White House senior aide David Gergen did not spare words is describing what a disaster Trump’s presidency has been.
Gergen appeared as part of a panel hosted by CNN’s Jake Tapper to perform a celebratory postmortem of Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan’s botched attempt to kill Obamacare. Tapper brought up how Trump stated following the defeat, in classic sour grapes fashion, that “the best thing we can do, politically speaking, is let Obamacare explode.” Gergen commented that Trump’s statement “was delusional in some ways.” He continued, “This is a man who just shoves it off on other people and described things in ways that are just misleading. I’m sure he’ll get better at this, and I think it’s also fair to say that a lot of presidents stumble. A lot of presidents had trouble in their first hundred days.” He added, “When you add up the totality of it — [Jake Tapper] said this is the worst week of his presidency. I actually think this may be the worst hundred days we’ve ever seen in a president.”
