why would canx even agree to the buyout of the 5% royalty [6 million shares or around 2.5 million]. chantix does nearly 1 billion a year fyi.

only 2 reasons:
1. they knew it would never go to market
2. a billion + buy out is coming but this "5% royalty" had to be cleared up.

then they changed the milestones and in my opinion made them easier
