March 22-Today was sort of repeat of Tuesday, except I didn't work in a t-shirt transplanting lettuces. It was cold and windy, and didn't warm up until mid afternoon. I managed to put in 2 more 18 cell flats of lettuce plants, start watermelon hill #6, clear more dirt for that 6ft timber. This project will take months rather than weeks to complete. That dirt is so compacted it's like concrete.
Another 20 plants took a bus ride. Those little newspaper cups are starting to add up.
CC the Calico Cat has started to follow the project manager in the morning when he makes rounds. She caught a mouse this afternoon and spent 30 minutes tormenting it. I sometimes think she is mouse mode most of the time.
I checked reviews of this free packet of Black Vernissage tomato seed from Baker Creek. A few reviews described them as mealy in texture, although most were happy with the flavor and production and would grow them again. I think what happens with new varieties is they aren't consistent. It takes a few seasons before the strain develops genetic purity. I did four cups this morning.
Back home, I took a nap, and didn't come around until 8:30, then hemmed and hawed before placing pepper seeds I had soaking for 48 hours in the newspaper cups. I'll finish up sometime early in the morning.
An overnight low of 35 is forecast, then rising to the 60s. I hustled a little gasoline from the maintenance man with the idea of tilling a limed bed after it warms up Thursday.
My flash card was maxed out. CVS carries them but the markup is ridiculous. Wal Mart sells them. I won't be able to upload images until I have the time for the long ride up N. Tryon.
Spring fever excuses.
Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
