March 20-It was a first day of spring just about anyone in the temperate zone would appreciate. I've seen miserable, cold, windy first days as has everyone else. And we will again.

But I took advantage of it with an earlier start. My pepper plants were flopped over when I went inside the greenhouse, but an hour later they were standing straight. The same was true for my eggplants.

Brought about a dozen more seedlings from the apartment, watered the lettuce. In fact, the list of tasks performed was long. I even managed to make it to both Dollar General for seed starting mix - and California Wonder pepper seed and Wal Mart for Garden-tone fertilizer and a packet of mixed bell peppers and Red Marconi pepper seed. I can't resist.

I limed two raised beds and weeded the paths between the beds. Watermelon hill #5 got some attention, along with more 40 inch lumber Snapper at the glass shop cut for me.

There was even time for gathering some Camellia blossoms on 6th street and a bag of coffee grounds from Starbucks.

Back home, I placed newly germinated plants on the windowsill and seeded cups with Alma Paprika seeds. The Long Purple eggplant seeds that went in a few days ago have already shot up. Plants will amaze you.

A hot one, for March anyway, is due up Tuesday. 80. Then rain. It's time to transplant lettuce plants.

Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
