This may have NOTHING to do with KalloInc, but Canada is giving lots of $$$$ to West Africa. I wonder if the grant comes with certain strings attached--like granting contracts to Canadian companies.

Conakry, March 20 (AGP) - The Canadian government, through its Minister of International Development and Francophonie, Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced Canada's accession to the Ouagadougou Partnership, according to a press release from The Communication Cell of the said Partnership.

It also announced funding of $ 650 million over three years for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SSHR) throughout the world.

She made these announcements in the presence of the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, on the occasion of International Women 's Rights Day.

The Ouagadougou Partnership, which aims to accelerate progress in the use of Family Planning (FP) services in nine (9) West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo) is very pleased to be included in this strong financial commitment that will help propel its progress in its current phase of acceleration.

The objective of the acceleration phase of the Ouagadougou Partnership is to reach an additional 2.2 million users by 2020.

"Canada will support gender equality and contribute to the socioeconomic strengthening of women and girls around the world by working to address SS / R and related rights gaps," she said.

But it will also specifically support "the provision of comprehensive sex education services, the strengthening of Reproductive Health (SR) services, and access to FP and contraception," she added.

For his part, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said, "As a result of this announcement, it demonstrates that Canada is a leader in the socio-economic strengthening of women and girls, Equality between women and men throughout the world.

"This investment will give millions of women and girls the opportunity to be leaders in their communities and to lead healthy, productive lives."
In her communication, Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and Francophonie, said Canada is committed to global action to support girls' health and sexual rights.

"Women's rights begin with the right of every woman and adolescent to dispose of her body and make her own decisions," she concluded.

The Ouagadougou Partnership was launched at the Regional Conference on Population, Development and Family Planning, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, in February 2011 by the governments of the Francophone countries of Africa West and their technical and financial partners to accelerate progress in the use of FP services in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
