March 19-The wind was cold at the corner with 6th while listening to Guitar Man across the street. It was around 10 then, and my first thought was about the rest of the day how uncomfortable it would be. It was up until about noon.
CC the Calico Cat wasn't there this morning when I arrived. I asked Danny the project manager who lives in the camper on the ledge. He said he fed her and that she actually rolled over to be rubbed. So she's accepted him.
The Rosa Bianca eggplant seedlings were leaning. Did the overnight cold cause permanent damage. While sipping on coffee in the greenhouse I set to work seeding more Green Syrian lettuce seed in newspaper cups. Thirty minutes went by and I noticed all but one of the plants had perked up. So did I. I went out to the beds to work on watermelon hill #5, digging that compacted dirt to make way for another 6ft timber, and to clear a spot for another 40x17 inch box next to the slope.
That wasn't all. I managed to finish clearing the weeds from between two raised beds. All 72 feet. Raked smooth, with that naturally composed soil shoveled onto the next bed I will till. Hopefully soon.
Then it's time for renting a Uhaul truck and gathering aged manure from Bobby's stable on Holland Avenue.
Sundays on Tryon Street when it's cold and windy and folks aren't interested in strolling uptown means all that one sees are derelicts. One approached me at the bus stop. I got up and walked while he followed. So I kept walking until I was near the square where people always congregate. Unfortunately while I was nearing Starbucks I saw the punk who hangs around to panhandle the Starbucks customers. I heard him curse me under his breath.
But what can you do?
