I have been trading for a million years and I don't use charts. The only chart I look at is the price history chart to look at where the price is now compared to recently. Now, I am not knocking charts, but just just to mention that I do this for a living and don't use them. What I would tell you is to look here first when you are interested in a company - whether it is a penny stock or a blue chip:

1st type in the ticker under GET QUOTE
- on the left is the menu - choose Company Profile - there you will get a very quick glance of the share structure and right under that where is says "security notes" it will list splits - both reverse (it will say shares decreased) and forward (it will say shares increased)

Then I highly suggest you go back to that menu on the left and check NEWS and FILINGS AND DISCLOSURE. There you will be able to see all the filings and click on them to read.

Those are the three most important features I would recommend you look at.
