March 10-I heard a thunder clap, just one, last night, and then went back to sleep. There was rain overnight. Not much, but enough to wet the ground.

A bunch of Cherokee Purple tomato seeds germinated but all the coating were stuck to the cotyledon leaves. They didn't look healthy so I 86'd them.

I finished digging watermelon hill #4, and plan to fill it with slope soil on Saturday. The forecast, though, isn't promising. Snow for Sunday, perhaps an inch. Then below seasonal cold temperatures. The lettuce in the bed will survive, but I can forget about transplanting for at least a week. It will take that long for the soil to warm up again.

A seed order from Seed Savers Exchange was in the mail. I will soak some Fatalii and Peach Habanero seeds in the sodium nitrate tomorrow morning for 24 hours before seeding them in newspaper cups. I can wait on the Forellenschluss lettuce seeds in the greenhouse. Way too cold the next few days.

My first pepper seeds have germinated from the packet of Alma Paprika I bought from ChilePlants.com. I just hope more come up. I'm running out of room on the windowsill.

Old Cadillacs never die. The finance company take 'em and faaaaade 'em away.
