Before anyone claims BRK was a penny stock once, understand that Buffett paid about $15 a share for it in 1965. BRK had a book value of about $19 a share, mostly in hard liquid assets and some land that was probably undervalued on BRK's balance sheet.
I'm pretty sure BRK paid a regular cash dividend when Buffett acquired his shares. BRK was a declining company in 1965, but it was somewhat profitable even before Buffett trimmed costs over the next few years.
