I drink your milkshake
Remember that great classic Daniel Day-Lewis scene from There Will Be Blood on gleefully drinking his neighbor's milkshake Click Here for video clip. That scene still send shivers up my spine.

From SciDevNet I draw your attention to an interesting article written on February 21 Click Here
In this article Jaime Aleé, a researcher at the University of Chile, believes that lithium resources are not a panacea for the country’s (ie Chile's) economic development. “One year of lithium sales are equivalent to ten days of copper sales in Chile,” he tells SciDev.Net. "It is not a profitable business even if more expensive products such as lithium hydroxide, cathode compounds of battery cells, cathodes and cells are exported.”
I believe Jaime was looking at the lithium business through Codelco's very rosy-colored eyeglasses overly pooh-poohing lithium's importance and it more as a nuisance rather than any "big-money-making" potential key operation.

And sympathetically it would almost appear that copper producer Cordelco's CEO Nelson Pizarro is not jumping up and down or all that enthused to agree to any new "rock the boat" JV to extract lithium from Codelco's properties. Click Here for Feb 28 interview. Given Chile's lithium sales for 1 year will only equal 10 days of copper sales I wonder if Nelson actually gives two hoots about the lithium on his property? In fact it could be that Nelson is much more focused now on the fact that Peru overtook Chile as the largest copper supplier to China this morning Click Here and he thinks "copper is where it is at for the next year or two... not stepchild lithium".

Codelco is our neighbor. It may be in the big picture that we neighbors basically draw from the same reservoir of lithium well hidden underground. If Codelco slowly slowly develops the lithium operations on its side of the Maricunga flats does that mean that our "straw" has more lithium brine milkshake to suck out of the big underground reservoir as so eloquently described by Daniel Day-Lewis in the movie There Will Be Blood?

Let us lift our chilled glasses of lithium milkshake high in a toast to Nelson and hope he loses any interest in selling off Codelco's lithium operation/assets... or at the least he waits to get bizzy on it until mañana. As Daniel Day-Lewis points out so well it is very important to be the first one (or a close second after SQM) to get bizzy with the straw.

The Doctor

PS, on the other hand it is time for LPI to kick it into high gear and get real quick bizzy on our LPI-LIEG-MSB milkshake... we certainly don't want anybody else sticking their long straw over into our milkshake backdoor from afar.
