mickey; The statement "we were to be able to drive a strong deal with the ZTE" is very ambiguous.

There are basically two distinct and contrary verb forms involved.

If he had just stated "we were able" that would indicate that a deal was done. However, the wording "to be able" means "can" or "could" indicating future potential for a deal.

Maybe some one with a good relationship with Patrick can get clarification.
