Actually "squeezed light" is perfectly compatible with known quantum physics, and that's what they cooled that bit of metal with. There was a limit on how much you could cool an object with one method (lasers), but what the scientists did was come up with another method where that limit didn't apply. So it was a very nice experiment and a clever idea, but no, it didn't break the known theory of quantum mechanics.
