What is love? Most would say love is an emotion you feel when you’re attracted to someone or something else. It’s thought of as that feeling that keeps you up at night thinking about that other person and hoping they’re thinking about you. But that’s not love; it’s infatuation. Others might picture love as a situation where you’d do anything for someone else, even if it meant giving your life. But that can’t be the epitome of love because any strong emotion can prompt that behavior. Hate groups have people who die for their causes all the time. It doesn’t mean love is involved. Love is stronger than infatuation or sacrifice. Yes, it might involve one or both of them, but it’s so much bigger. It’s an unconditional acceptance of another person no matter what your emotions tell you and no matter how they treat you in return. That’s love! If we all thought of love that way, it might change how we love one another. Our love wouldn’t be self-focused, but others-focused. The divorce rate would plummet, as would abortions and abuse. If you want to know love, look at Jesus, who accepts you no matter what and gave Himself to bring you back to Him!
