You are right sometimes Gold is rising with the USD. 
There are many components. When the currencies in the Eurozone are weak Gold is expensive for them.
When the Yen and other Asian currencies strengthen Gold goes mostly up because there is more need for gold.
And you have the factor of short covering, When this is started everybody is buying, the Dollar is not relevant in this case. 
I expect they will test the parity with the Euro, it needs not much now. This would bring the USD up. But not when they play other pairs in the currency game against the USD. mo

Despite that Trump made new reclamation against the weak Euro. In many statements he shows that he wants a weaker Dollar. Lets see.
