Which medical company did you have in mind?
There is one fearful scenario.
Currently, the "top" medical companies in the CGM arena are trying to gain returns on their current CGM products, with already projected tracks for 5+ years based on their invasive technology...
If a CGM company were to purchase the Echo IP, they most likely will just reduce the R&D until they see the current invasive technology make the returns. This happens all the time. A large company see's a smaller company's technology a threat, they will just buy the IP and put it in a fault for a rainy day.
The company we should hope for a purchase is one with an insulin pump and do not have a CGM. To close the loop (artificial Pancreas), companies other than Medtronics need a CGM partner. Currently, they could pair up with an invasive CGM company, and keep Echo IP as a silver bullet. They can pump in some $$ and release a closed loop artificial pancreas without relying on an OEM provider.
anyone keeping track of Google's eye lens glucose meter? That product is dangerous.
