This time, instead of taking slow + fast and hoping that it averages out closer to "fast" than to "slow," Intel is taking slow (HDD) + ultra fast (Optane) and claiming it averages out to fast (SSD-like).


How do you think DRAM plays into all this?

Can a gamer (or an advanced workstation user) go with reduced DRAM with this Optane caching - than they would without Optane caching?

In other words, would Optane caching enable the use of less DRAM with same or similar performance - say "4GB RAM+16GB Optane cache+HDD" - instead of "16GB RAM+HDD"?

Of course, I'm trying to see if Optane can take some of the DRAM market...and fairly quickly at that :)
