Smartphones are very useful, but they are a PC replacement in any way. If they are still hurting the PC market, it is in terms of share-of-wallet, not as a functional replacement.

I rarely use a laptop anymore, only when I have to when traveling. Most of my basic use is done on a phone, luxury computing time is done on desktop.

In terms of Intel providing a mobile SoC? Or PC becoming a Smartphone alternative.

I think the first will happen over time, but not the second. I think both smartphone and PC have their own value.

Intel and competitive mobile SoCs -- will believe it when I can go to the electronics store and I see phones that people actually want to buy powered by Intel silicon.

I believe them now that they say they are a credible modem player because I can go to the Apple store and buy an iPhone with an Intel modem if I want to. That has to be the fundamental test, anything else is just slideware.
