I have read parts and do own a copy of the Koran. I'll bet I've read more than some cultural Muslims do. I've read enough to see that Allah is Satan. That many Muslims, probably most, are trapped between a rock and a hard place. That the Koran is a book that instills hate and fear, not love. The Koran is Satan's manifestation and infestation of 'original xenophobia'.
I don't feel sucked in by reading it anymore than I felt the pull of Screwtape to be a Wormwood by reading C. S. Lewis's "Screwtape Letters". That is just me. I have my own thorns and weaknesses. I do understand your concerns.
If a Christian senses reading the Koran would compromise their faith, they shouldn't read it. However, there are good books on comparative religion in the Christian book store. Bible first. Other books second.
When our faith is rocked by anything, always return/run to first principles.
