Feb. 14-Starting eggplants from seed indoors can be difficult. I decided to start early. The packet of Rosa Bianca I ordered from Baker Creek Seed said a minimum of 25 seeds. I placed one seed in each of 55 cells in the grow dome I bought from Henry Fields. I had seed left over, maybe 10-15. Perhaps I can give them to someone.

There a freeze overnight and I layered up. It was cold all morning and into the early afternoon. But it warmed up considerably by 2 pm. A rainstorm heading west will arrive after midnight and clear out by lunch time Wednesday. Then it turns cold again until Friday.

The thought of what the weekend weather would be sapped my motivation -- again. It was another day more of the same. Saw wood, move some soil, fuss over the lettuce plants in the greenhouse. CC, the Calico Cat, has developed s fixation for the greenhouse. Each attempt at scaling with those claws leaves more pinholes for me to repair with clear strapping tape.

On Wednesday's agenda is a bus ride uptown to Stoke restaurant inside the Marriott to meet with the chef who has promised me fish carcasses. I will bring a bucket, with lid, and a black plastic trash bag. Fish emulsion about the best natural fertilizer there is.
