Feb. 13-The wind switched to the north. It's still winter. It saps my motivation. I sawed more lumber for another box, nailed it, and placed it. I'm gradually filling the stacks of boxes with soil from the slope. There isn't any need to break the tiller until the weekend when temperatures moderate. My first lettuce tray has plants putting out a fourth true leaf. They will be transplanted, I hope, next Monday. The raised bed next to the slope has to be worked up to prepare it for watermelons. Rico and his 'macheen' compacted the soil, making it hard, and difficult to spade up. I've resorted to a mattock hoe. I go at it every day. If I don't I'll never finish the first hill until it's too late to finish the other eleven.
