Feb. 11-It was somewhat chilly when I arrived at the gate. Something different. CC the Calico Cat was sitting on the stairs in front of the property owner's office. Too late to take a photo. It warmed quickly, as I knew it would. I made up for some lost time the past two days. A few wheel barrow loads of soil from the slope went to a raised bed. It's good soil. I see worms, which tells me there is plenty of organic matter for them to digest. I brought lettuce seeds in my carry bag and planted a tray of Merveille des Quatre Saison, plus another tray mixed with Forellenschluss, Black Seeded Simpson, and Little Gem. The best lettuce seedlings in the greenhouse I moved to a tray and placed it on the floor next to the door. They will go outside to stay for a few days, barring overnight freezes. I sawed and banged nails for more boxes. For next tier on the slope, I've sawed some 1/2 by 6 inch boards and screwed them onto the side of a box. I place them over the stacks to make a second row. This will be a long, drawn out project, but it's going to work.
