Clay, just to clarify, you used the term pump and dump a few times as a potential reason for what took place yesterday. There were no articles or email notifications that I could find (stockpromoters.com and other sites cover this pretty well) that could have been the impetus. So while it certainly could have been what you say, the root of it was not stymied by the typical methods of email or web site. Maybe as simple as strong buying to trigger the price increase by a group of people thereby luring in the day traders and mass hysteria, that is certainly possible, but to do that would cost a hellava lot more money than sending out those paid promotions which are typically under 10 thousand dollars. I'd love to know the technique used and whether the end result, on average, is the same as a standard promo, or if there is no pattern as to what the result might be using the different approaches.
