I have worked both union & nonunion and owned nonunion contracting company as well. Problem always was in past nonunion companies always had to operate streamlined and compete for their work, whereas union were protected by lobbyists and such and thus, so much complacency and other wasted time was rolled into their higher pricing structures, and why, mainly they only could bid for major projects. Plus mindset of a nonunion worker is different than that of a union worker too...

Will hardly find any union outfit working medium to small commercial or residential type jobs anywhere... But, when I worked federal contract work at military installation, everyone was nonunion, but paid the Federal Davis Bacon wage Rate; which essentially was an agreement with trade unions (lobbyists) that those workers were to be paid a regular hourly wage PLUS a fringe check per hour worked which was to be reflective of the total union benefits received for union workers- just to keep the union lobbyists happy in DC... Problem with Davis Bacon and Cost Plus contracts like this (nonunion federal contractors), is it then created LOTS of waste by federal Contractor firms & nepotism too working federal projects and why your toilet seats cost $500.00 and a box of 1/4-20 x 1" bolts cost $75.00, etc etc etc... BIG money leads to BIG greed everywhere..
