Well until the other "guy" becomes relevant IMO they are not an alternative. They are many many years behind NVDA with no viable platform (i.e. CUDA) and their R&D has suffered due to the constant cash flow problems. We'll see what they got with VEGA whenever it's gets launched sometime in 2017. Nvidia is the gold standard at this time and will continue imo regardless of other players trying to make headwind in the sector...
