Krispy Kreme - BLM Message On Doughnut Box

Krispy Kreme Employee Writes 'Black Lives Matter' On Officer's Doughnut Box

On Wednesday, an Atlanta police officer found a hand-written "Black Lives Matter" message on a box of doughnuts he ordered from a Krispy Kreme store in the Smyrna area.
The incident was first reported by a pro-police blog called Blue Lives Matter.

Krispy Kreme released the following statement addressing the reported incident and offering the Smyrna Police Department their "sincere apologies":

After we were notified yesterday that an officer from the Smyrna Police Department (GA,US) received a box of doughnuts that had writing on it from one of our shops, we moved quickly to investigate the matter and take appropriate action. As a company, we value both our customers and employees and respect all viewpoints. The experience did not live up to these high standards we set for ourselves. We have offered our sincere apologies to the Smyrna Police Department and addressed the matter at the shop. Furthermore, we will use this opportunity to train the staff at all of our US shops to reinforce mutual respect between employees and customers. We will continue to take any and all steps to uphold our company standard welcoming all guests to the joy that Krispy Kreme Doughnuts aspires to every day. As a matter of policy and consistent with our practice, we do not comment on individual personnel matters.

"While it is clear this behavior was egregious in nature, Krispy Kreme did take responsibility for the incident, investigated it, and notified the Smyrna Police Department that action was being taken," says a statement from the Smyrna Police Department in response. "It is the policy of Krispy Kreme not to disclose the specific actions taken on disciplinary investigations."

The Blue Lives Matter blog, which first reported the incident, was not as satisfied, calling the Krispy Kreme statement "unacceptable" and accusing the company of intentionally omitting any verbal support of law enforcement as to not upset Black Lives Matter:

"In an apparent attempt to avoid offending Black Lives Matter, they did not acknowledge any support for law enforcement, and they did not really acknowledge what the employee had done wrong. They could not bring themselves to say anything that might imply that it was wrong to write 'Black Lives Matter.' Rather than acknowledging that the employee was disrespectful to law enforcement, they appear to only say that the employee didn’t respect the officer’s 'viewpoint.'"

As reported by The Daily Wire in July, an Ohio police officer found shards of glass in his sandwich. In that same month, it was alleged that employees at a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge spit into officers' drinks.

But such incidents seem minor when we take into account the increased risk behind the badge since the legitimization of Black Lives Matter by President Obama and his Democratic colleagues. Fatal shootings have been on the rise; as reported by The Washington Post, fatal police shootings increased by 50 percent from 2015 to 2016. Violent crime in general is also on the rise.

If tensions between the Black Lives Matter movement and police officers continue to persist, these numbers will likely keep climbing. Many are holding out hope that President-elect Donald Trump can undo some of the damage exacerbated by the Obama Administration by unequivocally supporting American law enforcement. Time will tell.
