CUBA, January 12, 2017. On this Thursday, January 12, the third government-to-government claim discussion was held in Havana between representatives of Cuba and the United States. The Cuban delegation was led by Abelardo Moreno Fernández, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs while the US delegation was led by Brian Egan, the State Department Legal Adviser.

In this meeting, which is the sequel of the past meeting held in Washington D.C. on July 28, 2016, both delegations continued the exchange on claims made by both States and assessed the possible mechanisms to jointly settle the mutual claims, as part of the negotiating process for this complex issue.

The Cuban delegation reaffirmed that in the framework of this solution, it is essential to consider the claims of the Cuban people for human and economic damages, which are included in the sentences passed by the Provincial People’s Court of Havana in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

The representatives of both governments reiterated the importance and usefulness of continuing to hold these meetings. (Cubaminrex)
