I agree with the first part, but Canceling the old notes might be the wrong word. I don't know what would be the justification for that. Those debts were attached to this ticker and I don't see why the debt holders would let it go. I do think they could be satisfied at a reduced rate if the holders would agree.
As a shareholder, I would not take any satisfaction in seeing them get screwed. The company & it's ticker, which was sold (old business gone or not) should still pay it's debts. JMO
