I believe the Funding is to encourage Pharmaceutical companies to do research towards discovery of new, more powerful Antibiotics.

However, in the interim, we will need to find ways to prevent these Superbugs. That is where AS should be able to shine. Preventing the spread of Superbugs is actually better than having to treat them.
The questions that we face, is whether the word will get out after these US Trials. For this question, the answer will be yes as long as the company makes that happen with enough Media coverage.

The question of prevention will require the company to show the economic savings that would come from avoiding Superbug contamination. It is in the best interest of Hospitals and Insurance companies to avoid paying costly medical care and lawsuits by protecting the public from spread of diseases before an outbreak can occur.

Will they buy into it?
How long might it take?
How many illnesses and deaths does it take?
