Many things must be ventured...nothing ventured nothing gained..but in cutting edge business, marketing, product development, etc, many ventures fail. It's like picking up women in bars...many attempts, maybe 90%, fail, but the 10% that succeed..oooh-la-la..



I agree that companies, especially financially healthy ones, should take risks and look to expand into new areas. Going after phones and tablets was the obvious choice, so I don't criticize that. I just think that with better execution on Intel's part, they could have been a contender in this market.

That being said, good stuff fell out of their mobile efforts -- their low end PC offerings became much stronger as Atom was souped up to try to compete in mobile (this led to market share gains and cost structure improvements), and they have been successful at building out their embedded/IoT business using mainly the Atom products.
