Trump says he's going to save $300 billion a year by allowing Medicare to seek competitive bids on pharmaceutical drugs, something the Republican Congress specifically prohibited as "socialist" when George W. Bush added pharmaceutical coverage to Medicare.
This is the same plan put forward by the Obama Administration and rejected by Congress.
The only flaw in Trump's projected $300 billion of savings on Medicare pharmaceuticals, apart from getting Congress to approve it, is that Medicare only spends a total of $100 billion annually on medications.
