As I said last week, there is usually a screening period before subject enrollment/treatment. The study site needs to develop an IRB approved informed consent. If the hospital uses its own local IRB, approval may take awhile. Then the site has to recruit potential subjects. Subjects need to meet the protocol criteria. After a subject signs informed consent, there could be a drug washout period. Depending on the inclusion/exclusion criteria, some drugs may take 30 or more days to wash out. It may be a few weeks before a subject is actually enrolled.
