Fabulous! but I think my thought was... plus! ...not above. A good trader takes profit off the table. My continuing education, lol. profit is not a four letter word!
I have done more trading in the past year than ever, but I still want to trade more often, because it is rewarding and encouraging to verify your Due Diligence. So that takes dry powder.

That said a major portion of "held" or long term stocks adhere to the underlying goal of stepped up valuation for heirs and avoiding double taxing with MLP distributions. Many including me were taken by surprise when Rich Kinder, who was considered one of the founders of the MLP sector, made the decision to bail and sting his long term followers. That decision by itself probably gave over a billion to help fund the national debt, in otherwise untaxable MLP investment, as 2 billion+ units of KMP became shares of KMI.

I am hoping to owe some higher taxes in 2018, not because of any increase in percentage, as there could be a slight decrease, but because I take more profits.
