Something else that Steve said about LD-AIM is that with traditional AIM, you never sell the core dollar value of the holding. If you start with $10,000 of value and AIM for 20 years, you will never have traded that initial value away - even near market tops.

So, his though was "Why invest that initial un-traded amount in the first place? Why not make those shares 'virtual?'

In the example I gave it would take 4 trades of 75 shares to exhaust the real position. Those would all have been profitable trades at the time the inventory 'ran out.' Steve suggested that one could keep the AIM machine running even when out of shares and use it to "time" the repurchase of shares should the stock turn downward again in the future.

It has a certain elegance when you think about it. I think it has quite a bit of merit when investing in individual company stocks.
