The UAT P-KEW platform is an electromagnetic projectile launcher utilizing Lorentz force to launch a small projectile at hypersonic speeds. The Umbra Battle Rifle redefines the marque for the 21st century – a fitting celebration of the principles of the men and women who founded this country and who continue to defend it. This continuing pursuit of innovation, reliability and durability realized in our UBR-16 platform has instantly created new benchmarks for the industry. With the launch of the UBR-16 we have pushed new boundaries to build the most powerful combat tool a warfighter can possess. We have invested heavily in the weapons efficiency, reliability and durability without sacrificing any measure of the weapons practical function or efficiency.
At UAT the word standard is only used to describe that which we aim to surpass. For us, the only standard that matters is excellence and it is driven by a fierce attention to detail mindset. This is why when we began to develop the next generation of combat rifles we began with the materials that make up the components that make up the weapon. We began with both the upper and lower receivers and chose only the strongest and finest aluminum available for such a precise tool. The UBR-16 upper and lower receivers are manufactured to the highest standards, even exceeding MIL-SPEC, from forged 7075-T6 aluminum not stamped or billet aluminum. Every receiver is precisely engineered, machined and visually inspected to insure a standard of excellence uncommon among combat rifles.
Every component is individually inspected and hand polished to eliminate burrs that can break free and cause poor performance or catastrophic platform failure. The 1:7 twist government contoured, 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel barrel can accommodate both 5.56 and .223 ammunition and has been finished inside and out with a proprietary QPQ Melonite treatment that bonds with the metal on a molecular level. Also referred to as salt bath nitriding, this treatment produces an extremely hard, low friction coefficient surface on steel that resists carbon adhesion and increases corrosion resistance which can extend a barrel’s service life by reducing the friction produced inside the bore upon firing for a net decrease in bore surface wear over time. Nitriding converts the barrel steel’s surface without any build-up, retaining all of the benefits of traditional chrome lining without suffering the accuracy degradation commonly encountered due to uneven application of chrome inside the barrel’s bore. The end result is a barrel that’s capable of producing accuracy on par with a match stainless steel barrel, while also exhibiting the longevity and resilience of a chrome lined, mil-spec barrel.
Upon passing inspection, both upper and lower receivers are then subjected to aluminum hard coat anodizing (Type III), that improves high temperature operations, increases surface hardness, with improved wear resistance and smoother surface finish designed for extreme environments and temperatures variations. The anodic layer is a non-conductive electrolytic passivation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of the weapon. UAT’s anodizing process is similar to standard anodizing in that it is a controlled electrochemical processes however in keeping with UAT’s pursuit of excellence, its process yields a surface with enhanced wear resistance and a smoother, harder surface than is typical of standard anodizing. The UAT anodizing process is more uniform, dense, and much harder than with natural or standard oxidation. During UAT’s anodizing process, a uniform aluminum oxide layer is formed on the surface that penetrates into the material. Both the meticulously engineered upper and lower receivers undergo a precise process to begin the hard coating protective process. The hard coat anodizing process involves submerging the part(s) in a sulfuric acid bath at approximately 32°F, with a density of 23 to 37 amps, for up to two hours. This determines the thickness of the coating and insures a proper protective coating.
Lower Receiver
Within the 7075-T6 forged aluminum lower receiver is a self-lubricating three and half pound pull trigger group assembly, made of forged aluminum and hardened steal, can be replaced easily and quickly further reducing repair times if necessary. This represents a 50% reduction in trigger pull typically associated with MIL-SPEC rifles. The UBR-16 trigger assembly is fixed in place with 2 high grade pins and is seated by hand to eliminate rattle and noise during clandestine operations. This is typical of the attention we give to the simplest details that make our products so special.
The UBR-16 lower receiver also features an optional ambidextrous safety selector, over-sized steal magazine release and hardened extended take-down pins so the interior of the weapon can be accessed quickly with gloves on.
Upper Receiver
Within the 7075-T6 forged aluminum upper receiver is a standard forward assist mechanism and an UmbraTec coated steel forged, low mass bolt assembly with a titanium firing pin weighing only 7.5 ounces. This represents a 21% reduction in weight from some of the best bolt carriers in the world. The ambidextrous charging handle is machined from 7075 T6 billet aluminum with extra metal reinforcing the stress points to stand up to hard operational use. The UBR charging handle is Type III hardcoat anodized in matte black to reduce friction and jamming. The UBR’s Heavy-duty charging handle has an innovative, oversized latch that distributes pull force evenly across the entire handle for fast, smooth, reliable operation with the support hand. The unique design prevents the critical roll pin from breaking and rendering the latch inoperable.
