Great article on Enertopia that goes some way to explain why we shareholders are onto a good thing!!

Enertopia (ENRT) Expands on Brine Testing and the Upcoming Change afoot for Lithium
Spotlight Companies Follow | Friday, 16 December 2016 11:01 (EST)

We spoke with Robert McAllister of Entertopia (ENRT) (TOP) about his recent press, and asked him to expand on some of the concepts so investors can sort out his story as we exit 2016. Enjoy the read !!!

Equities: The Bench testing of four brine samples with Genesis Water Technologies Inc. (GWT) Lithium. Can you expand on this and talk to investors about what happens next.

Enertopia: GWT is taking the historical chemical composition of Lithium samples that have been taken at four locations in Nevada, Arkansas, Argentina and Bolivia. These synthetic recreations of the actual brine samples will enable us to do two very important things. First it will tell us how the new technology responds to different chemical compositions in extracting the Lithium from the brines and the potential costs of processing the Lithium from the brines.

With this information we will be able to refine our location for the test plant based on the expected positive bench test results. Once a final location is approved by the board of directors we would do a follow up brine test with the actual brine from the proposed location. We expect to construct the test pilot plant later this year following permitting and financing of the project.

Equities: You refer to this processing technology as one which could change the current footprint in the Lithium industry, can you break this down for an industry novice and help us understand what to look for and why.

Enertopia: Historically Lithium brine deposits have relied on the sun’s heat to evaporate the water and concentrate the Lithium from under 0.1% Lithium to 6% to 8% Lithium by using evaporation ponds covering hundreds if not thousands of acres.

Today modern technology is allowing for the likely complete elimination of these ponds and also the commensurate downsizing of the actual production facility required to process the Lithium brine to acres and not hundreds or thousands of acres. Also instead of taking up to 18 months to concentrate the Lithium from evaporate ponds one will most likely be able to process Lithium brine and have a finished treatable product in a matter of minutes through a closed system. The brine waste water will be pumped back into the brine deposit thus reducing the environmental foot print even more.

Equities: What did you learn about the progress for Lithium in 2016 that surprised you.

Enertopia: The two takeaways for me were the accelerating growth of electric vehicle sales which are tracking at the upper end of projected growth rates. As a result the World Lithium demand has grown from around 140,000 tons per year in 2015 and is estimated to grow to 250,000 tons by 2020 and over 500,000 tons by 2025. While this is happening more and more manufactures and consumers want their electric powered lithium products to be sourced from environmentally responsible companies.

The second major surprise and what I think are game changing decisions by A) Germany’s technocrats passing a law banning all internal combustion engines in Germany by 2030. And B) Four of the World’s largest cities, Athens, Madrid, Mexico City and Paris announced on Dec 2, 2016 the banning of diesel cars and vans from their cities by 2025. These are major steps that will lead to the acceleration of demand for electric vehicles.

Equities: What do you think the US based election results means for Canadian mining and mineral companies in a macro sense, and for Lithium specifically.

Enertopia: Tough question, we are hearing a lot in the press that the new US administration will work hard to re draft or remove certain legislation that slows the process for exploring, developing and producing minerals. So short term I would not expect too much to change as all these regulations came in over several decades.Longer term it might help in shortening the timelines to production. But no matter what in today’s world it takes a lot of time and capital to move through all the processes to get from discovery to production. But just maybe mining will be better understood and received by the public as today’s modern Canadian mining companies are very proactive as stewards of the environment and taking active roles in being good community partners.

Equities: How is technology impacting the mineral resource sector

Enertopia: I believe we are at the doorstep of witnessing major transformative changes in how mineral deposits can and will be developed and produced going forward. When one combines human creativity, machine learning, robotics, and other technology components it unleashes transformative change. One good example is the combining of Electric Vehicles with driverless technology. This is likely to result in mostly positive disruption in the way we use our vehicles, traffic patterns, parking, car sharing. Enertopia is currently reviewing options on how new disruptive technologies from other sectors can help us in the mineral resource sector.
