Today I got an email from a silicon valley friend that was about a movement by employees there to resist creating a list of Muslim people. The idea is that the threat of massive resignations will give the software companies pause in cooperating with some new requests to create databases that would have been unthinkable a year ago. There was an attached article but not a link. After the avalanche of unbelievably nuts things happening lately, this indeed sounds ominous on several levels. And I do not subscribe to crazy conspiracy stuff. So your alarm may not be misplaced at all.
